An Oscar Winning Performance - Abellon receives Ashden Awards 2011
On 16th June '11, Abellon has won the Ashden Award 2011 - considered to be the Green Oscars – the top most awards in the green and sustainable energy segment globally. Abellon has been felicitated for successfully establishing a sustainable biomass pellets manufacturing model using crop waste – a local, clean source of energy that reduces CO2 by replacing polluting industrial fuels, as well as for driving economic growth, improvement in crop yields and support of farmers through its Poornakumbha initiative.
The winners of the Ashden Awards 2011 were announced at a VIP Awards ceremony in London on 16th June, addressed by Greg Barker, Minister for Climate Change, the UK, who had also visited our stand at the exhibition before the ceremony and was briefed about Abellon's integrated model focusing on low-carbon business activities.
The award ceremony was attended by over 500 people including dignitaries such as UK's Most Famous Journalist and BBC-IQ Host Mr. John Lloyd, Mr. Kevin McCloud-British Designer-Writer and TV Presenter for Channel 4, HH Princess Zahra Aga Khan, senior diplomats, policy makers, Financial institutions and representatives from Industry.
Before the awards ceremony, our MD & CEO, Mr. Aditya Handa and President, Mr. Pankaj Patel were privileged to meet with the Prince of Wales, Patron of the Ashden Awards, at his residence where they had a one hour round-table meeting during which HRH Prince Charles personally congratulated the award winners for their individual achievements and for contributing to a sustainable future.
Instituted in 2001, the Ashden Awards showcase practical solutions to combat climate change and meet the energy needs of the poor, rewarding outstanding and innovative clean energy projects.
Winning the award is a matter of honour and pride for team Abellon. It further strengthens our resolve, and inspires us to work towards Mahatma Gandhi's vision for a more sustainable and equitable world.
