Poornakumbha - Completing an Integrated Circle
Poornakumbha - Completing an Integrated Circle
Establishing collection centers: During January'11, 13 Cotton Collection Centers (Poornakumbha Hubs) were inaugurated in different villages in the vicinity of Abellon's upcoming pellets project at Vitthalapara, Gujarat. The inauguration included a Pooja and was followed by Krishisabhas in all the villages. These hubs would be a steady source of biomass for our pellets manufacturing facility.
Krishisabhas: During November '10 to February '11, a number of Krishisabhas were organized to impart practical knowledge of efficient farming practices to farmers. These programs included training by experts from the Agriculture University in Gujarat.
Intervention with Government: As a part of its mandate to support productive use of wasteland, Poornakumbha got a resolution of Green Village Project from Gram Panchayats of Olak and Chharad villages, located in the catchment of Vithhalapara Zone. This resolution permits cultivation of wasteland in these villages, and would support sustainable biomass generation for Abellon's Vithlapara project, as well as enhance income and employment for farmers from these villages.
Educational initiatives: As part of its focus on social development, Poorankumbha team members carry out various activities promoting education in villages. Some programs recently conducted by the team include a basic session on computer training, and appointment of an English teacher, at BKM School at Bolundra - Modasa. On the occasion of Republic Day, a celebration was organized at the same school. Apart from this, a series of Drawing Competition-cum-Workshops were conducted in villages nearby Khas and Vitthlapara zones in Gujarat.
